STURBRIDGE, MA Thursday & Friday - July 5-6, 2012
Featuring Ellen Chester of With My Needle
This is going to be an AWESOME RETREAT!!! Ellen Chester will be teaching her beautiful “Fruit of the Vine” project, which can be stitched as either a sampler or turned into a huswif! It is gorgeous!
I’m thrilled to have Ellen return to teach for Stitcher’s Hideaway! She is a delight -- so sweet, fun, cute and little and I just felt like hugging her to pieces the whole time she was here last time! Hehehehe!
This retreat, planned to immediately follow Independence Day, will also feature fun from the folks at Old Sturbridge Village! On Friday, July 6th, there will be a presentation on Celebrating Patriotism. Patriotic imagery and emblems could be found on a variety of early 19th century items, from embroidery to fabric to ceramics and art. Join Old Sturbridge Village staff members Jean Contino, Coordinator of Households, and Rebecca Beall, Collections Manager, for a look at how early New Englanders expressed their patriotic sentiments through everyday objects. The presentation will include a look at excerpts from letters and diaries describing 19th century celebrations such as Independence Day, and a variety of objects from the Old Sturbridge Village collection such as needlework pictures with patriotic motifs, embroidered memorials to George Washington, dress clothing which might have been worn for festive celebrations, and an assortment of household objects bearing patriotic imagery.
I hope that many of you can arrive the day before to attend a very special event at Old Sturbridge Village on July 4th -- An 1830s Independence Day Celebration. It’s going to be a fun day at OSV -- and then in the evening there will be fireworks! Tickets for this event will be available beginning in spring 2012.
The retreat will be held at The Publick House Historic Inn, with lodging right next door at the Public House Country Motor Lodge. Built in 1771, the Publick House maintains its 18th century ambiance while providing 21st century comforts. The Publick House is located just 1 mile from Old Sturbridge Village. Our meals will all be provided by the Publick House, and I can tell you from first-hand experience that they are DELICIOUS!
Cris & Pam from Chris’s Collection will be on hand for our stash-enhancement needs. Attendees may email the shop about any particular items they would like brought to the retreat for purchase.
I will be opening registration as soon as possible after a few more details are wrapped up. If you are not already on the email distribution list, just email and ask to be added so that you will receive first word as soon as the information is posted on the website.
See you there!
Sue
