Stitcher’s Hideaway
2016 Winter Escape
& Alumni Addicts Day
Fun Report

Wow!  This annual event just keeps growing and growing!  But then -- what’s not to love?!?  We get to snuggle in at the Publick House Historic Inn in Sturbridge, MA in the middle of winter with other addicted stitchers and spend our days and nights together stitching, dining, shopping, laughing, stitching...and stitching....and stitching!!  We look forward to it all year long!  As people arrive there are always very excited greetings, hugs, laughter, and chatter.  We get to meet new stitchers and reunite with many we know.  Some come with friends, some come solo, and they all have a great time!  We are together each day and night in our stitching room and enjoy our yummy meals together.  With such a common interest, we have much to talk about and share!  I just love the happy chaos of everyone arriving and the conversations at each table!

Upon arrival each stitcher received a Fun Pack of donated goodies from 123Stitch, Bush Mountain Stitchery & Framing, Kreinik, Morning Glory Needleworks, Samplers & Such, Stitchers Hideaway, The Prairie Schooler, Udder Cream, Victoria Sampler and Weeks Dye Works!  Among other items, they received a kit from me to make this little Winter Escape keepsake:

Bush Mountain Stitchery, Stitchers Hideaway, and BFF Bags & Pouches had a great selection in their shops for our stash enhancement pleasure!   WOW!!!!

At this retreat we had our very first male stitcher!   Bob attended with his wife Kate, making them the first married couple to attend a Stitchers Hideaway retreat together! Bob and Kate both enjoy working on needlepoint.

Bob was given a Stitcher’s Hideaway mug
for being the first male to attend!

Ode to Stitcher’s Hideaway
by Marie Sauer

O’er snow and slush and icy path,
Alumni gather in Sturbridge, Mass.
They say it’s haunted, or do you scoff
at lights that flicker on and off
and thumps and rattles heard from the loft?

Needles cross from morn till eve.
Threads of friendship we do weave
line by line, to and fro,
French knot, daisy, backstritch row.
Our design begins to grow

Linen and Aida and colorful thread.
Specialty bags by Roberta and Peg.
Thank you Sue for a job well done.
Now let’s go to the bakery and have a sweet bun!

Glorious food is served us there
and luscious cakes with chocolate flair.
Of bulging waistlines we much beware,
but we’re so happy, we don’t care!

Marie wrote this poem after the 2015 Winter Escape.  (We heard ghost stories from the Publick House Inn staff that year -- haha!)  Marie stitched her poem onto a pillow and brought it in for Show ‘n Tell!

Did I mention our awesome food at the Publick House Inn?!?  Mmmm....   Shortly before each meal I announced, “It’s time for our next feeding!” and we headed for the room right next to our stitching room.

I thought about our short talk late last night.  And since I had a long ride to get back home with Kate, we both agreed about me writing this note to you.  I’m not an e-mail kind of person.  I am sure running the Hideaway outing is not easy.  Being a leader of my thing that large isn’t.  But you did a great job, and for myself you made me feel very comfortable and accepted.  I hope to make next year’s, if it lines up with a school vacation.  And if you want to make it longer I think people would come!   Because you make even a new person feel very welcomed!  Thanks again, Bob

How can it be that each “Winter Escape” is better than the last?   I enjoyed myself so much this year – thank you for 3 days of fun, food and stitching bliss!  It is always nice to connect with friends new and old.  You provide a relaxing atmosphere, ideas for new projects and great door prizes.  I’m already looking forward to July!  Best, Stephanie

Thank you again for all you do to make the stitching escapes so much fun.  As always the time went by so fast – they say that happens when you’re having fun!!  Until next time – stay well and happy stitching!  Hugs & thanks, Janice

I can’t thank you enough for arranging this Stitchers’ Hideaway Winter Retreat.  We had an absolute blast, and my friends were right, it is a terrific time!   Everything was wonderful and we couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves more.  We were truly able to leave our troubles behind for a few days and really relax.  It felt great!!  Thank you again and I hope to see you next time.  All the best, Kate

Hey Sue, wanted to write to you and let you know I had such a good time at the Alumni retreat.  It was great to see all the regular faces and so many new ones.  As soon as I get home I start to look forward to next year, like a kid waiting for Christmas.  I really appreciate all you do to give us those cozy few days in the winter.  I'm always a stitching fool when I get home because of Show and Tell and seeing all the great things people stitched during the year.  Thanks again!  Luv ya, Jamie

I wanted to send a note of thanks to you for once again hosting a fabulous Stitcher's Hideaway Alumni Retreat.  I was very happy to spend three days with stitching buddies that I've met over the years. And, of course, Sturbridge is the best venue for hosting.  Lots of room to spread out, shop for lots of goodies, and fine eats (desserts were the best).  Looking forward to another fun time next year.  ~ Cynthia

Oh, how sad to see the retreat come to an end.  We had so much fun!  In fact, some asked me to turn it into a Stitchers-Hide-A-Week next year -- and I decided that’s a great idea for 2017!!  See you next year!

Sue
